Great news for all lovers of fanzines and DIY art projects! Marya Errin Jones might be coming to Stockholm with The Pamphleteer Project– with a little help from us!
Marya Errin is a social media specialist, writer, musician and founder/producer of the ABQ Zine Fest
, now in its fourth year. She is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico
, in the heart of the American South West. She’s also a co-founder and curator at The Tannex
, a DIY clubhouse/music and performance venue in Albuquerque where she produces lots of punk, noise, and literary events. She also maintains the Albuquerque Zine Library
. She’s been writing zines for about five years, attending zine fests, like LA Zine Fest
, and the Portland Zine Symposium
Now she wants to come to Stockholm during the Titwrench STOCKHOLM Fest (
May 9, 10, 11). A ”woman-centric, experimental, fringe music fest”. This is the first year the Fest is happening in Sweden. (Read more
– I’ll get back to this in the blog!). Titwrench STOCKHOLM is the sister Fest to the original Titwrench
, founded by Sarah Slater
. And we can help her make her dream come true by donating
Tell us more about the project!
I love sharing zines, and had been thinking about a way to make zines written by women and people of color more prevalent in public libraries or zine collections, and so The Pamphleteer Project was born. The project aims to seed or add zines to existing collections.
As a performer in several Titwrench festivals, the idea of performing at Titwrench Stockholm was an exciting prospect, and perfectly aligns with the Pamphleteer Project.
Stockholm is the pilot city for The Pamphleteer Project. I will work with organizers to create a pop-up zine library during the fest, and then I will donate those zines to a local collective.
What are your plans for Stockholm?
As soon as I arrive, I will go into rehearsals with a dear friend and colleague, Micaela Gustafsson
. We will be performing a transcontinental performance piece called emil::lime
Micaela is a popular performer of children’s shows in Stockholm. We met as students at Dell’Arte International
in 1999. This will be our first project together in many, many years!
I’ll also install a pop-up zine library
at Titwrench STOCKHOLM, offering zine workshops
when possible. After the fest, I will donate the zines to a local collective
. I am still trying to determine with best placement for the zines that will do the most good.
How can the world get a tiny bit better?
The world gets a tiny it better when we take it upon ourselves to explore the edges of our zones of comfort by letting the spirit of adventure win. When we are curious about life, we expand our knowledge of humanity– our knowledge of each other. I feel better when I am traveling, trying new things, meeting new people. We are all ambassadors, now. I am truly sad about violence against women and the rise of cruelty and intolerance in the world, and the investment in nearly impenetrable borders at the expense of people’s lives. I believe that zines have the power to make the world smaller yet better through the sharing of personal stories, and Titwrench Stockholm is the perfect place to share zine culture for the US with Swedish readers and zinesters.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future include getting to a few more zine fests this summer and fall. ABQ Zine Fest is coming up in October. I’m also writing zines, and creating a solo sound/noise performance of Euripides’s Trojan Women. As for the Pamphleteer Project, I am already thinking about its next zine drop!
Hjälp projektet komma till Stockholm genom att stötta det! Det kan man göra på den här sidan. Just nu saknas några hundra dollar för att pengarna ska räcka till. Heja heja!
