Review – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light and Blush in Dim Infusion

There is one phenomenon that I hate. It goes like this: 1. seeing a luxury product get hyped over the moon by every nerd out there, and then 2. trying it out myself and just have to fall right into the preaching choir. That’s exactly what happened for me with the Ambient Lighting line from Hourglass, I’m suffering and enjoying it at the same time.

The Ambient Lighting products are micro fine photo friendly powders packed with lustre (but totally free from glitters!) that come in a variety of colours where different shades can act as a highlight/face powder/bronzer/neutralizer depending on what skintone you have. Right now there are two products in the line: one coloured powders and swirled blushes. They promise a fresh transparency and a blurring “soft focus effect” that makes your face look as if you had a private lighting technician. Well, I don’t want to believe it as I almost always can find a product at lower price that gives the same effect as the expensive one, but this time the effect is unbeatable. Maybe the budget products will measure up with time, but right now – pure ass whipping is what’s going on.

You can order Hourglass from their American website or from british Space NK, and buy it at Sephora in some countries from what I know.

Ambient Lighting Powder – Diffused Light

Varmt blekgult ansiktspuder.

Warm pale yellow face powder. Transparent and mild enough in tone to not look chicken yellow on pale skin but still brighten. The lustre in this powder makes it a beautiful natural highlighter on the high points of the face aswell as, believe it or not, a glowy all-over face powder. It keeps the skin oil free but creates this hyperreal cartoon glow that wears through out the day. When I prefer it a tad matter I layer it on top of a matte translucent powder, but still apply it all over the skin.

Ambient Lighting Blush – Dim Infusion

Rouge i dämpad blek aprikos.

Subdued pale apricot blush. Called a “subdued coral” by Hourglass themselves but in my eyes it’s too warm to be a coral, so, apricot! However, a super flattering and warming shade that gives light skin perfect 1960′s cheeks (Illamasqua Lover lovers, this one is for you). The blush has a swirl of Dim Light face powder which grounds the bright shade a bit.

Here’s what the sleek packaging looks like. If I’m not mistaken the one on the left (powder) has their old logo and the one on the right (blush) has their new one, so don’t be surprised if your powder looks different from mine.

It feels as if luxury products today aren’t about a blinged up case with the right name on it, a rose scent so strong it makes your eyes tear up or a cool-but-worthless golden spray on paisley print, it’s more about the sheer luxury of applying an elegant product that speaks for itself once it’s on the skin. No irritating scents and no tacky ads with “sexy poses” and diamond encrusted handbags, it’s about simple packaging, wearable colour schemes, well tested formulas and clear communication with both the skincare world an next seasons exciting runway trends. Hourglass falls right into that frame for me, it’s probably what creates this love-hate for me. The products are good because the products are actually good.

Diffused Light Powder applied all over the face to set a BB cream. See how the skin captures the light without making it look greasy? This was before I left home, I looked exactly the same when I came home hours and beers later.

A look where I used Diffused Light Powder all over the face and Dim Infusion Blush on my cheeks. See, no glitter! So fascinated. Blog post about the look here.

Okay, I went there. I tried the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder and Blush and of course, now I’m just another lost soul. It makes my skin look cartoonishly perfect,I mean that SHEEEEN! Sigh.

Lost myself in that brown Becca gel liner aswell, perfect colour, consistency, wear time.. I’m on an insane product finding roll right now! Time for a “recent favourites” video on YouTube, amirite, yes, no, yes?

My go-to eye look right now

Do you get stuck in makeup routines? Just snatching the same stuff and putting it on the same way every morning. I often do with eye makeup, here’s what I’ve reached for lately!

KIKO Soft Touch Blush – Natural Pink (102) smoked out all over the lids with the EcoTools Airbrush Concealer brush, and lashlines slightly defined with the shadow that I use for my brows. So quick and easy, I actually love this blush more as an eyeshadow than as a blush! The pinky brown shade compliments blue and green eyes beautifully.

You know when you start with a look not knowing where it will lead? That’s that happened today, and I ended up piling on warm earthy tones on both eyes, cheeks and lips. 100% fall appropriate! Except for the mascara, it sucked.
