Charlotte Tilbury swatch and review madness!

Puss!

2014 has been a great year when it comes to product launches, and we’re about to take a look at one of the absolute highlights!

London based celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury (who has worked with Kate Moss, Penélope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Ford and Stella McCartney amongst others, you know the drill, larger than life) launched her own line of luxury cosmetics, skincare and tools. All wrapped in gorgeous copper packaging with wine coloured accents, ultra classy!

These products are available at the Charlotte Tilbury British website, British Net-a-Porter and american Beautylish.

Outer packaging

Lip Lustre

The lipgloss line contains an array of gorgeous nudes to match any skintone or shade preference, and is topped off with a few reds. How deep do you dare to go? A vinyl finish, non-sticky feeling and long wear time is promised, who doesn’t like the sound of that?

The formula of these is definitely thick, but more of a “gel” kind of thick instead of the stringy and tacky glosses that we all dread. I either want my glosses thin and balmy or like this, a thick glamorous lacquer. These are phenomenal for any high impact gloss lover!

charlotte tilbury lip lustre

The packaging is great, you can clearly see the colour of the product and the wand is small and precise.

charlotte tilbury lip lustre

Ibiza Nights, Sweet Stiletto, Red Vixen

charlotte tilbury lip lustre ibiza nights

Ibiza Nights. An almost clear beige with iridescent sparkle, doesn’t feel gritty on the lips like sparkles can do. Great colour for a soft everyday effect or for layering on top of nude lipsticks.

charlotte tilbury lip lustre sweet stiletto

Sweet Stiletto. The purrrfect pinky nude lip gloss for those afraid of corpse lips. Shimmer free and creamy, doesn’t settle into lip lines even though it’s surprisingly pigmented.

charlotte tilbury lip lustre red vixen

Red Vixen. Holy moly, that red! It has a slight translucency that makes it look super delicate on its own, but that also makes it perfect for layering over reds, wines or even blacks.

Lip Cheat Lip Pencil

The lip pencil is Charlotte Tilburys secret weapon backstage. Resize and/or reshape the lips and lay a long wearing base for other lip products. You have three nudes and two shades of red to pick from.

I’m not much of a lip liner person, it may be because of my dry lips, because I almost always find them thick and crunchy when worn all over. Same thing with these to be honest, but I do like using them as a finishing touch after my lipstick is applied to make the lines extra crisp. Good liners overall though, they do glide on well without tugging.

charlotte tilbury lip cheat lip pencil

I would have wanted the pencils to have a twist-up function, it feels shameful to sharpen and waste product when it comes to fancy cosmetics.

charlotte tilbury lip cheat lip pencil

Pillow Talk, Pink Venus, Savage Rose

charlotte tilbury lip cheat lip pencil pillow talk

Pillow Talk. A neutral shade that would work on many lips. Great for retouching uneven lips or making nude glosses go on extra crisp.

charlotte tilbury lip cheat lip pencil pink venus

Pink Venus. Not as pink as the name might suggest, more of a nude pinky peach. Great base for many summer corals!

charlotte tilbury lip cheat lip pencil savage rose

Savage Rose. A cool toned red. The hardest one to apply out of these, a tad patchy. Hard to get crisp lines with for some reason. Great for perfecting lines after lipstick though.

K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick

The range of creamy lipsticks is of course insanely thrilling. Enriched with antioxidants and creamy waxes this formula promises a long wearing result that doesn’t bleed at the edges. There are 10 shades to pick from out of which about half are great for finding the perfect nude just for you, and we all know how much of a struggle that is!

In this line I found some absolute favourites and some “meh” products, they actually vary a lot in formula from shade to shade. Some of them are jaw droppingly creamy and long wearing on the lips, totally matches the price point, while others are a bit grittier which would be fine for a slightly lower price. Good lipsticks, but not all are mindblowing! I expect a lot when I pay a lot.

charlotte tilbury k.i.s.s.i.n.g. lipstick

The packaging is super sleek and feels very old Hollywood.

charlotte tilbury k.i.s.s.i.n.g. lipstick

Stoned Rose, Bitch Perfect, Coachella Coral, Velvet Underground, So Marilyn

charlotte tilbury k.i.s.s.i.n.g. lipstick stoned rose

Stoned Rose. A creamy deepened nude, rosy enough to not look like 90′s peanut butter on my lips. Feels very slick and moisturizing.

charlotte tilbury k.i.s.s.i.n.g. lipstick bitch perfect

Bitch Perfect. A pinky nude that brightens instead of zombifies. It’s the least creamy of the bunch but it sure looks pretty on!

charlotte tilbury k.i.s.s.i.n.g lipstick coachella coral

Coachella Coral. A soft “grown up” coral, great if you want to get into corals or want a less summery version.

charlotte tilbury k.i.s.s.i.n.g lipstick velvet underground

Velvet Underground. A deep cool toned magenta, the perfect jewel tone pink! Stays intact without bleeding all night on my bare lips. Would look gorgeous on every single person out there.

charlotte tilbury k.i.s.s.i.n.g. lipstick so marilyn

So Marilyn. Hello retro red! Look no further, the red is here. Classic cool toned red, great on so many skin tones. One of the creamiest lipsticks.

Luxury Palette

The Luxury Palette eyeshadows is probably the product that lures people in, just look at it! Colour coded quads with a prime shade to apply all over the lid and inner corner, an enhance shade for eye socket and lashlines, a smoke shade for extra socket and lash line definition and then the glittery pop that ties it all together with a glamorous sparkle. Go with the thought out look or create your own!

These also vary in quality. All of them go on smooth and soft on the eyes but the pigmentation is not always on point. I’m not talking about bad quality here either but I would have wanted a heavier punch in some places, most smoke shades are a bit weak for example. The pop shades are mindblowing though, the sparkle actually stays on the lids!

charlotte tilbury luxury eyeshadow palette the dolce vita

The Dolce Vita. Sheer luxury in a palette. Coppery browns and golden sparkle creates a mesmerizing soft smokey eye that compliments any eye colour. Just give the smoke shade a tad more pigment and it’s as perfect as it could get.

Prime, enhance, pop, smoke

charlotte tilbury luxury eyeshadow palette the vintage vamp

The Vintage Vamp. Similar to the Dolce Vita palette but more red toned, gorgeous with blue eyes! Sadly not the strongest when it comes to the deeper shades, I wish one of them was darker so that the smokey effect actually got ultra vampy.

charlotte tilbury luxury eyeshadow palette the vintage vamp swatch

Prime, enhance, pop, smoke

charlotte tilbury luxury eyeshadow palette the rebel

The Rebel. A sultry jewel green palette, has hints of both olive and teal which against the peachy prime shade makes it a very dynamic composition. Maybe not the most wearable palette for the average consumer, but you won’t find a more grown up and glamorous range of greens. Swoon material.

The Dolce Vita

Those of you who follow me on Instagram have seen the exciting stuff that’s coming up, I’ve got a bunch of Charlotte Tilbury products swatched and ready, soon to be posted! Oohhh the makeup shivers. Let’s start it all with a makeup look including two of the products, ok? The rest comes soon!

So here I’m wearing K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Bitch Perfect, a pinky nude. GORGEOUS colour but formula wise quite standard. Not bad at all but not amazing. For £23 I want luxe!

Luxury Palette in The Dolce Vita on the other hand.. An eyeshadow quad in champagne (prime), copper (enhance), gold (pop) and brown (smoke). JEBUS this is gorgeous! I wish the sparkle of the gold would pop in pictures as it does in reality.. I used the shadows “as intended” placement wise, but of course you can do anything you want with it.

Review – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light and Blush in Dim Infusion

There is one phenomenon that I hate. It goes like this: 1. seeing a luxury product get hyped over the moon by every nerd out there, and then 2. trying it out myself and just have to fall right into the preaching choir. That’s exactly what happened for me with the Ambient Lighting line from Hourglass, I’m suffering and enjoying it at the same time.

The Ambient Lighting products are micro fine photo friendly powders packed with lustre (but totally free from glitters!) that come in a variety of colours where different shades can act as a highlight/face powder/bronzer/neutralizer depending on what skintone you have. Right now there are two products in the line: one coloured powders and swirled blushes. They promise a fresh transparency and a blurring “soft focus effect” that makes your face look as if you had a private lighting technician. Well, I don’t want to believe it as I almost always can find a product at lower price that gives the same effect as the expensive one, but this time the effect is unbeatable. Maybe the budget products will measure up with time, but right now – pure ass whipping is what’s going on.

You can order Hourglass from their American website or from british Space NK, and buy it at Sephora in some countries from what I know.

Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light, Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion.

Ambient Lighting Powder – Diffused Light

Varmt blekgult ansiktspuder.

Warm pale yellow face powder. Transparent and mild enough in tone to not look chicken yellow on pale skin but still brighten. The lustre in this powder makes it a beautiful natural highlighter on the high points of the face aswell as, believe it or not, a glowy all-over face powder. It keeps the skin oil free but creates this hyperreal cartoon glow that wears through out the day. When I prefer it a tad matter I layer it on top of a matte translucent powder, but still apply it all over the skin.

Ambient Lighting Blush – Dim Infusion

Rouge i dämpad blek aprikos.

Subdued pale apricot blush. Called a “subdued coral” by Hourglass themselves but in my eyes it’s too warm to be a coral, so, apricot! However, a super flattering and warming shade that gives light skin perfect 1960′s cheeks (Illamasqua Lover lovers, this one is for you). The blush has a swirl of Dim Light face powder which grounds the bright shade a bit.

hourglass ambient lighting powder in diffused light and blush in dim infusion

Here’s what the sleek packaging looks like. If I’m not mistaken the one on the left (powder) has their old logo and the one on the right (blush) has their new one, so don’t be surprised if your powder looks different from mine.

It feels as if luxury products today aren’t about a blinged up case with the right name on it, a rose scent so strong it makes your eyes tear up or a cool-but-worthless golden spray on paisley print, it’s more about the sheer luxury of applying an elegant product that speaks for itself once it’s on the skin. No irritating scents and no tacky ads with “sexy poses” and diamond encrusted handbags, it’s about simple packaging, wearable colour schemes, well tested formulas and clear communication with both the skincare world an next seasons exciting runway trends. Hourglass falls right into that frame for me, it’s probably what creates this love-hate for me. The products are good because the products are actually good.

Diffused Light Powder applied all over the face to set a BB cream. See how the skin captures the light without making it look greasy? This was before I left home, I looked exactly the same when I came home hours and beers later.
