How I tint my eyebrows

Eyebrow tinting, a key step to get nice fluffy brows! Even the darkest brows benefit from a god dye, it helps fill in those transparent baby hairs which when visible really plump up the volume. Also, if you get a good dye and apply neatly the tint left behind on the skin acts as semi-permanent eyebrow makeup. The first day after tinting them you won’t even have to apply your regular pencil or powder to get a nice shape! Yay dye!

The dye I use is Refectocil in 3 Natural Brown, a brown that can vary from a taupe to an almost black shade depending on how long you leave it on for. Refectocil is the only brand I’ve tried that actually saturates the brow hair and leaves a nice solid colour that lasts more than two days. Depend and Coloran which are the easiest ones to find here in Sweden are crap in comparison, go for Refectocil, you will be so much happier with the result.

Important: remember to get the developer, it’s sold separately!

You mix the developer (10 drops for liquid format, 15-20 drops for cream format) to 2 centimeters of dye in a little plastic or glass container before applying it to your brows. I use a spoolie, you can also apply with an angled brush if you need more precision. Leave it on for 10 minutes or so before rinsing. I repeat this every two to three weeks.

Refectocil brow tint is available at for 79 SEK, the developer is 59 or 99 depending on if you choose cream or liquid format. Again, don’t forget buying it! It will last you through multiple tubes of dye though.

The scary stage! When the dye is on it deepens to a dirty black colour, don’t be afraid, you won’t get clown brows! Be sure to apply in the shape you fill in your brows though, because the skin will get a slight stain afterwards.

Rinsed and ready! See how much fuller the hairs look just from getting a bit of colour?

MicroPen treatment at Gilda Skolan, Gothenburg

I had a MicroPen treatment done at Gilda Skolan here in Gothenburg last Friday, a treatment where you get your face mangled with tiny needles, also called micro-needling. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? The needles penetrate the top surface of the skin creating a controlled damage that will start a healing process in the skin triggering collagen and elastin production. You will be left with plumped, less textured skin, of course better results the more times you get the treatment done but do expect a glow boost right away. It is ideal for anyone who wants to soften wrinkles, tighten loose skin, improve the appearance of large pores or get rid of acne scars.

One treatment is 1100 SEK at the Gilda student salon, you can get three treatments for 2850 SEK. More info on the Gilda website.

My main interest was to boost the glow, but also to mangle the beginning frown line between my eyebrows. I always walk around looking pissed because I can’t relax my forehead properly, and I just don’t want it to become a permanent feature. Any tips on that one?

The treatment started with a cleanse and AHA acid mask to exfoliate, then a gel serum applied during needling. After the needling you get a comfy hydrating mask to calm the skin down. We decided on going for 0.5 mm needle depth as I had no problem with the pain level (I can’t help comparing it to tattoo mangling which is a million times worse), it felt a bit weird on the cheekbones and on the bony part right above the brow, but the meaty parts of the face aswell as neck/decolletage was like a massage. In all the needling took about 10 minutes.

The day of + the day after my skin felt a bit raw, but already at day two I clearly felt and saw the plumping effect. Mainly between the brows, which now 5 days later still feels just as smooth so it wasn’t just swelling. A solid improvement! Over the last 24 hours my skin has been really itchy and flaky from healing, All I’m doing at the moment is packing the skin with the Gilda Calming Mask and sunscreen, so I guess I’ll get a really nice glow once it has healed up and I can go back to my AHA acids again. Looking forward to it!

So, overall I had a great experience. If I didn’t have to spend my money on boring grown up stuff (like ehh food and living costs??) I’d be there doing this every single month, no question about it. Expensive but worth every single penny.

Have you tried micro-needling? How was your experience?

Cheese grater, anyone? The flakes are at their absolute worst today, 5 days after micro-needling.

What’s in my travel makeup bag?

Last weekend Jerry and I went to Copenhagen for a few days, here’s everything I packed makeup and skincare wise! All products are listed below.

travel makeup bag

Here’s everything I packed, do you pack more or less than this for a weekend?

  • Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash. A creamy cleanser that doesn’t irritate or dry my skin out.
  • Pixi Glow Tonic. Glycolic acid (AHA) toner that exfoliates the skin and makes it look and feel fresher.
  • Sunday Riley Artemis Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil. A face oil with black cumin and brightening citruses, can’t live without.

  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer “Fair Neutral”. A thin and soft concealer with great coverage, works perfectly fine dabbed all over so I skipped bringing a foundation.
  • Milani Baked Blush “Luminoso”. Glowy peach blush, basically blush and highlighter in one.
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad “Smoke”. A slim eyeshadow quad that I can do both brows and some simple eye looks with.
  • Milani Brow Shaping Clear Gel. Favourite brow gel for keeping them in place all day.
  • IsaDora Perfect Contour Kajal Waterproof “Black”. In case I would care to do a smokey eye. I didn’t.
  • IsaDora Insane Volume Lash Styler Mascara. Current favourite.
  • H&M Lip Saviour Balm “Sepia Tint”. A really soft and hydrating rosy lip balm.

  • Beauty Blender Pro. A makeup sponge, just picked the closest one I had on hand. I prefer the pink as it’s a bit softer in texture.
  • Ecotools The Lovely Looks Five Piece Brush Set. Minus the mini flat foundation brush. A tiny but still totally useable set.
  • Zoeva Vegan 235 Contour Shader. A stiff angled brush that is great for smudging lashlines, a must have recently.
  • Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush. Great for both applying and blending.

It all fits perfectly in this cute faux leather makeup bag from KICKS. Available at the KICKS webshop, link here!

Today I played with the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Smoke, four matte cool toned shades that together create the perfect dark grey smokey eye. As always with KVD eyeshadows they swatch, apply and blend heavenly, but holy shit they kick up so much product when you put your brush in them!! See the picture at the bottom of the post.

I used all shades except for the medium grey, those greys always turn dirty blue on my skintone so I skipped it for that reason. The taupe is the star of the show in my opinion, it’s the peeerrrrfect shade to soften the edges of a black eyelid.

  • Lumene Nude Perfection Fluid Foundation – Classic Beige (1)
  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer – Fair Neutral
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge Impalpable Finishing Powder – Diaphanous
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette
  • Milani Baked Blush – Luminoso
  • Youngblood Lunar Dust – Twilight

  • Sigma Beauty Brow Powder Duo – Light
  • Milani Brow Shaping Clear Gel

  • Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad – Smoke
  • IsaDora Perfect Contour Kajal Waterproof – Black
  • IsaDora Insane Volume Lash Styler Mascara

  • GOSH Velvet Touch Matte Lipstick – Antique

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Smoke. Can you believe that it was completely untouched before doing this makeup? No? Well that’s the classic KVD kickup for you. A beautiful makeup look on your face (without any fallout on the face!?) and the same amount of eyeshadow sprinkled over your makeup table. Haha.

I finished 3 basic staple products within the same week?!

They all just.. ran out. I had to pop into my backup stash three times this week to get my fix! After trying a zillion beauty products through the years you just end up sticking to certain things (aka the irreplaceable gold medalists), I get the itch just by thinking of being without these three.

finsihed 3 staple products

I’m planning on saving Selma though, she’s still going strong.

Pixi Glow Tonic

A toner heavy in aloe vera (calming) and witch hazel (tightening, calming) with 5% glycolic acid (exfoliating). My skin is so sensitive these days, even the wrong side of a cotton pad can leave my skin burning, but it still loves this toner! By using this daily I have been able to skip all other kinds of gritty or acid/enzyme packed face scrubs, it exfoliates mildly but effective enough to keep my skin in a solid well-exfoliated state. I apply it with a cotton pad after cleansing with a balm in the evening, and some days in the morning after a splash of cold water. Always followed by a good serum and cream. Rallelujah.

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara

A tubing mascara (comes off like little pantyhose with warm water and a cotton pad, no smudging!) with the thinnest, loveliest wand ever. I’ve never found a quicker mascara for creating heavy pitch black lashes, it basically applies itself. I’m not even smudging my lower lashline with this wand, after all these years I still can’t apply mascara with a regular brush without making a mess but with this one I can. Haha. Review and demo here!

Rouge Bunny Rouge Impalpable Finishing Powder Diaphanous

Invisible face powder. If you thought that your 100% silica powders like MUFE HD were smooth, fine and invisible you just haven’t tried this one. I often find the HD powders having a scary texture, they fly everywhere so that I breathe them in when I use them and they feel stiff and dry on my skin. The Impalpable Finishing Powder is just.. invisible. It takes the shine of my foundation down to a satin matte and keeps it like that all day without turning into an even goopier mess after a few hours. Fills in pores and fine lines beautifully (undereye heaven!) and doesn’t reflect white in photos.
