Stardust

Todays makeup was inspired by one of you! I asked for some interesting colour combinations on Instagram (@killercolours) and I the first reply I got was to do something with taupe/silver and orange. I really love the combination of cool toned silver with a fiery orange, I remember doing a look like this when I just had started my blog (8 years ago, can you believe it?!?) so it was a great idea to pick it up again!

I’m wearing Moondust, a shimmery taupe, blended all over the lid towards the brow. Graphite, a shimmery steel grey, on the lashline and outer corner deepened with matte black Bulletproof. Then I smacked Stardust, a metallic cream, in the center of the lid for a wet look.

You really liked it when I posted a picture of the products I used, so I’ll keep doing it when I have time for it! It would be a bit overwhelming showing every product so I’m going for the key products that you would need/have to dupe to recreate the look.

Lumene Longwear Blur Foundation review & demo

Lumene Longwear Blur Foundation, you see me use it over and over again and it’s for a simple reason – it’s the best thing that I’ve ever worn on my skin. I have tested everything that has come my way, expensive as well as cheap and complicated as well as simple, and I thank the makeup gods for the favourite that for once isn’t hella expensive and hard to find (in Sweden at least)! I think you can order it within Europe at Eleven.se.

What do I expect from a good foundation?

I want a foundation that, first of all, looks like skin. I diss everything that is detectable on the skin with a closer look in the mirror. The formulas I prefer are packed with silicons and have a creamy consistency (unlike thin liquids or cream to powder) that won’t dry matte, they even the skin texture out and give some glow so the skin won’t look like a dead pancake. The coverage shouldn’t be too high, medium coverage is definitely enough when I can follow up with a concealer. I rather have something that balances the skintone very well. Perfume free is basically a must as my skin tends to act up after a few days use otherwise.

lumene longwear blur foundation

Lumene Longwear Blur Foundation comes in a plain squeeze tube. Very travel friendly and easy to get the last drop out of.

How do Lumene themselves describe Longwear Blur Foundation?

“Longwear, velvety foundation that makes your skin look instantly smooth and flawless. SPF 15. The blur effect of the foundation makes the skin look instantly more even and flawless. The effect is based on the new silicone technology, the number of warm color pigments in the texture, and light-reflecting pigments. This unique combination evens out the skin tone to a naturally perfect result, optically fading fine lines, uneven skin and other minor imperfections.”

Does it live up to expectations?

Here we tick all boxes both from my personal preference aswell as Lumenes promises. With some fixating powder in the T-zone in the morning I often go all day without any touch ups at all.  The product doesn’t break down and start smudging or cracking which often happens after about six hours, this one just stays where I put it in the morning. A little goes a long way with this one so a thin layer is enough, that surely does add to the long wearing effect. I don’t have any problems with the foundation oxidizing or changing in colour in any way.

Negative space heart manicure

Valentines is over, but the heart nails remain! It’s super easy to create these heart nails, I suck at nail art and even I can handle it.

  1. Start out with a round/pointy nail so that your heart gets a nice tip at the bottom.
  2. Apply a base coat to the nails for less staining and a longer wearing manicure.
  3. Pick a colour for your hearts, apply a swipe down each side of the nail to create the top of the heart.
  4. Do a second coat if needed.
  5. Let it dry so you won’t smudge colour onto the bare areas of the nail, then finish with glossy top coat to seal it all in.

Tadaaaaa!

I did a similar look with black triangles last year, check it out here!

NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow for spring 2016 – Tarvos & Cressida

The NARS spring 2016 collection is called Nouvelle Vogue and features a bunch of soft rosy neutrals with contrasting icy mint and bright blue. Those are the shades that we’re looking at today! The Dual Intensity Eyeshadow is a powder shadow that you can apply both wet and dry, let’s take a look at two of the three new colours.

Tarvos is a icy mint colour, almost a bit duochrome as it shifts in aqua when applied. I thought this shadow would be easy to dupe, hard to use and end up at the back of a drawer, but I was sooo wrong. The extreme shine makes it the perfect inner corner highlighter, also when layered over other shadows it turns all different colours. I have worn this both with brights (like the blue below) and also with neutrals, works just fine both ways. It’s almost as intense applied dry as wet!

Cressida is a bright blue with a soft pink/aqua sheen that gives it dimension. It’s not quite as bright as the in-your-face 80′s blue, it’s a bit hazier and softer which makes it less scary to wear day to day. The formula of this one is not as good, it is drier and is a bit hard to layer to a full coverage without a damp brush or pressing it on with a finger. It can be a good thing though as it’s great for sandwiching colours in a dark smokey eye, it would bring depth instead of just covering everything else up. But with looks like this it needs a little extra lovin’.

Cressida applied on the outer 2/3 of the lids, Tarvos applied all over the inner corner and blended out towards the middle of the lids. The colour you get when blending these shadows together is so fantastic!

Q&A: Makeup, skincare and perfume

You asked a bunch of questions on Instagram (@killercolours) a while ago, and here are some of my answers! Some questions are translated to english and/or shortened down just so you know. Let’s start with the makeup, skincare and perfume related ones!

What’s your favourite long lasting lip colour?

The Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks are so. damn. GOOD. They stay on like champs and are so intense that your lips look like a cartoon. Will write a post about them very soon!

Best makeup purchase during 2015?

Definitely my neutral Viseart palette! I use it all the time. Few eyeshadows are easy to layer, you know how a shadow can just slide around and not grab on when you try defining the eyelid for example? These never have that problem, so apart from using it on my brows daily and for easy everyday looks I also reach for it when other shadows fail.

Which products would you recommend for covering up blemish prone, oily, hyper-pigmented skin that is newly recovering from cystic acne?

I would say mineral foundations! The crap-free powder kind. You buff a small amount into the skin and it’s left smooth, oil absorbing and best of all – it isn’t irritating or clogging on the skin. Look Meow Cosmetics up, the one with the highest amount of coverage looks like a dream on the skin. The structure of bumps and/or scars is impossible to cover but you will get an even colour and the satin matte finish (opposed to a luminous creamy one) helps dim the appearance of texture.

What are your favourite perfumes?

My spontaneous answers would be Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady, Versace Crystal Noir and Comme des Garçons Wonderoud. All of them have a lovely presence and are still wearable at all situations when perfume is considered okay. They all have that soft velvety feeling in common which many people seem to enjoy.

A cruelty free dupe for MAC’s Fix+ spray?

Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist! I use it every single day that I wear makeup to take down the powderiness.

Any good makeup products or brands that are underestimated/people don’t seem to know about?

I feel so weird about people giving up all the incredible indie brands that create loose eyeshadow pigments?! They were hyped in the makeup community like 10 years ago but those are still the most multidimensional and gorgeous eyeshadows available. Period. Check out Femme Fatale Cosmetics for example and be amazed.

Which decade is your favourite makeup wise?

I can’t decide! The 60′s for its fantastic colours shapes and textures, the 40′s for laying the foundation for what we today call classic glam. Two key elements that I love incorporating into my looks.

If you could only wear one kind of look, what would it be?

I would say shimmery smokey eyes and neutral lips. They are easy to apply as they don’t need a lot of precision, they only look better as the day goes on and there’s no need for touch ups like with statement lips (I can’t believe I just said no thanks to a classic red lip, AAHHHH).

blue shimmery smokey eye

Most essential skincare product?

There’s a draw between Pixi Glow Tonic and the LUSH Cup O’ Coffee mask. Without those two used regularly (toner once or twice a day, mask twice a week) my skin does not look the same.

Favourite YouTube channels?

Karima McKimmie and Lisa Eldridge do exactly what fascinates me the most, they apply makeup in the most effortless way and don’t go too hard on the Instagram makeup trends (those sculpted full coverage faces with heavily lined brown lips and huge false lashes just don’t do it for me!). If you have any recommendations on more people along those lines please leave a comment below!

What’s the one makeup product you can’t live without?

Rouge Bunny Rouge Diaphanous! It’s the most wonderful finely milled powder that has a plumping, smoothing effect on the skin without mattifying too much. It’s very different from the classic HD powders which just make my skin tight and weird, this one sets makeup well and blurs the skin without making it feel or look dry at all. Magic!

Are there any expensive (or cheap for that matter) skincare and/or makeup products that you feel outshine all other alternatives?

The Viseart neutral palette mentioned at the top of the post, that’s just an essential to me. Nothing I’ve ever tried compares to it. Skincare wise I find the Pixi Glow Tonic hard to beat, it has a great price tag for what it is and it works wonders on most faces.

Any tips on makeup shopping in London?

Harrods for Charlotte Tilbury and that PERFUME FLOOR, oh lords! Right next to Harrods you have Space NK with Hourglass, Kevyn Aucoin, Diptyque and Emma Hardie as a small example of their fantastic range. You have a Illamasqua store on Beak Street where you also have the pretty little Pixi store nearby and not a too long walk to the big LUSH flagship store on Oxford Street. And of course the million Boots and Superdrug you find everywhere for a serious drugstore fix. Those are a few tips. Happy shopping!
