I finished 3 basic staple products within the same week?!

They all just.. ran out. I had to pop into my backup stash three times this week to get my fix! After trying a zillion beauty products through the years you just end up sticking to certain things (aka the irreplaceable gold medalists), I get the itch just by thinking of being without these three.

finsihed 3 staple products

I’m planning on saving Selma though, she’s still going strong.

Pixi Glow Tonic

A toner heavy in aloe vera (calming) and witch hazel (tightening, calming) with 5% glycolic acid (exfoliating). My skin is so sensitive these days, even the wrong side of a cotton pad can leave my skin burning, but it still loves this toner! By using this daily I have been able to skip all other kinds of gritty or acid/enzyme packed face scrubs, it exfoliates mildly but effective enough to keep my skin in a solid well-exfoliated state. I apply it with a cotton pad after cleansing with a balm in the evening, and some days in the morning after a splash of cold water. Always followed by a good serum and cream. Rallelujah.

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara

A tubing mascara (comes off like little pantyhose with warm water and a cotton pad, no smudging!) with the thinnest, loveliest wand ever. I’ve never found a quicker mascara for creating heavy pitch black lashes, it basically applies itself. I’m not even smudging my lower lashline with this wand, after all these years I still can’t apply mascara with a regular brush without making a mess but with this one I can. Haha. Review and demo here!

Rouge Bunny Rouge Impalpable Finishing Powder Diaphanous

Invisible face powder. If you thought that your 100% silica powders like MUFE HD were smooth, fine and invisible you just haven’t tried this one. I often find the HD powders having a scary texture, they fly everywhere so that I breathe them in when I use them and they feel stiff and dry on my skin. The Impalpable Finishing Powder is just.. invisible. It takes the shine of my foundation down to a satin matte and keeps it like that all day without turning into an even goopier mess after a few hours. Fills in pores and fine lines beautifully (undereye heaven!) and doesn’t reflect white in photos.

Iconic

Todays makeup was an excuse to get to try my Iconic lashes from House of Lashes. I have seen these fluttery criss-crossed deer lashes on so many people lately (I’m looking at you Karima McKimmie!) and I just couldn’t help myself when House of Lashes offered an awesome black friday deal. It was time!

These lashes are 100% synthetic but still not plasticy smooth and shiny like synthetic lashes often are, they truly look like hair! The band is fairly thick and stiff but they still landed on my eyes like angel wings, just fell into place without any work and kept feeling super comfortable for being so big. HUGE thumbs up, did not expect it. There’s a picture of them in their packaging at the bottom of the post!

I felt that the lashes asked for a deep warm shimmer on the eyes and luminous peachy skin with freckles. A little 60′s as always, that is.

Terrific Rouge

Here’s my basic face for the last week or two! I took this photo many days ago and managed to forget it, so no clue what I used for my base sadly. But there are two important components to this look.

Dr. Hauschka Natural Pastels Rouge Powder Duo in Soft Rose. I’m usually not much of a rosy blush person but with a red lip I really do love a heavily flushed cheek. This one is the perfect colour for me! Beautiful finish as well, sort of a satin matte. Will release soon!

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Lipstick in 201 Terrific Rouge. The formula of these lipsticks is FLAWLESS. The lipsticks are so called “anti age”, super smoothing and thin in texture. Perfect for winter dry lips! I tend to apply this red lippie from the bullet along the inner part of the lip, then use a finger to smudge it out all over the lips, patting the colour on softly in layers creating a bright stain. I rarely need to apply it more than once a day when I wear it that way.

Ashes To Ashes

The loss of David Bowie is hard to put into words. Bowie showed the world that fashion and beauty has no gender, that you could be whatever you wanted to be. A timeless source of inspiration that I, like many other, hold extremely close to my heart. Safe travels starman, the stars indeed look very different today.

My Aladdin Sane cover recreation from the 40th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust back in 2012. Link to blog post here.

And today, 4 years later, I also sparkled for Ziggy. Lit Cosmetics Cher in size #4 was the holographic chunky glitter I used.

Of course with Scofflaw Varnish David Bowie’s Bulge on my nails aswell. Also inspired by the Aladdin Sane cover, plus named after his ehm.. pants? in Labyrinth. Haha.

Secret Garden

Some days when you don’t have much time to do your makeup you just start mindlessly whacking makeup on your face hoping for the best. Or am I the only one doing that?

Today I started blending a medium brown shade from my neutral Viseart palette all over the top and bottom lids thinking that it would be my look for the day, but of course I couldn’t resist MOAR SHADOWS. So I got my new Makeup Geek Duochrome Eyeshadows out (I will show you soon!) to add some shimmer on top. First a soft sweep of Ritzy focusing on the center + inner corner of the lid realizing that it turned into a weird greenish mustard shade, so I deepened it with cool toned dark green Secret Garden, applying it on the outer corner softly fading inwards. Magic happened and it turned into the most PERFECT reddish golden green look? Yeah, I’m surprised too.
