First full face of makeup in weeks! Feels great being somewhat back. I have missed wearing pretty lipsticks! The eye makeup will have to wait until my eyes stop running. Derp.

Today I threw ColourPop Lippie Stix in Lumière on in a haste before leaping to work, and even though it’s right on the border of being too 90′s for me (AIN’T goin back there) I like it! The opacity is amazing, one sweep is like cartoon lips. Read my review + swatch post here!

My first bottle of niche perfume was from Parfumerie Générale, a French house by perfumer Pierre Guillaume who has a taste very compatible with mine. There’s a dry silkiness running through the line, like a DNA, which I’m very fond of. In many of the perfumes it comes from cacao, light woods or soft hay or grains. It’s rather soft and dry with a playful edge than sickly sweet even though there are many gourmand notes. Available at the Parfumerie Générale website.

So this was my first niche bottle, and after many years it’s still one of my absolute favourites. A dry an dark vanilla, iris and green banana hugged by a cloud of fluffy dry hay. Amber warms it at the base which gives the vanilla an extra punch. A very unusual vanilla scent, worth smelling for those who usually don’t like vanillas as this one isn’t sweet at all.

This one moved in a few years later, also loved to pieces. Begins with an ice cold spearmint and lavender, transforms into a cool cedarwood and then blasted through with a creamy dark cocoa and warm myrrh. All this wrapped in soft wheat. Incredibly contrasting! The lavender note is my favourite about this scent, it’s like a flirt with classic barbershop style lavender cologne but in a completely different context than before.

So this is two coats of bright white Cirque Carpe Diem with iridescent China Glaze Snow Globe on top. A lovely combo!

ColourPop Cosmetics Lippie Stix swatches part 1

I left you with a sneak peek a week ago, now that I’m getting my health in order it’s time for real lip swatches! ColourPop Cosmetics make these lipsticks called Lippie Stix, slim twist-up pencils that come in a zillion colours and different finishes. For each lipstick there’s a matching Lippie Pencil which is the best thing ever! More of that please. Also the fact that both lipsticks and lip pencils are only $5 a piece is just glorious.

These five colours are my first, but I can admit that more is on its way so you will see much more ColourPop on here soon! (UPDATE: They have arrived! Blog post available here!) I have chosen to match up the darker colours with lip pencils just because those are harder to apply neatly, both in this bunch and the next. I never use pencils with light colours so I’ve skipped that, but they are available if you’re into it.

The ColourPop Cosmetics website doesn’t ship to Europe (BOOO!) yet but it seems like it’s coming up, until then you can shop through American friends or any mail forwarding company, like Shipito. It’s a bit pricier but at least it creates a possibility.

Lippie Stix in Creature, Bichette, Frenchie, Lumiere, BFF. Lippie Pencil in Creature, Bichette.

colourpop lippie stix creature swatch

Creature. A GORGEOUS blackened burgundy red, matte finish, cool undertone. It’s more of a semi-matte and slightly sheerer than the other shades I have here so it didn’t apply perfectly on my bottom lip where I’m drier, and the slight translucency left it looking lighter along the edges. Nothing BAD though, just a regular problem with dark shades. In this picture I fixed the edges after application with Lippie Pencil in the same colour, it would look dangerously hot with a black pencil too. Bottom line: Don’t skip the pencil with this one.

colourpop lippie stix bichette swatch

Bichette. A matte deep wine red, cool toned. Barely matte in my opinion as it’s quite slippery and not flat looking at all. It has a slight translucency which makes it look juicy, but it doesn’t apply unevenly at all, this is without the pencil! The perfect deep cherry red.

colourpop cosmetics lippie stix frenchie swatch

Frenchie. Warm toned almost neon red, matte finish. Holy french fries, Batman! This is a flat matte lipstick in the most perfect orange toned red colour. Super easy to apply and makes SUCH an impact. Easily my favourite of these five. I didn’t get the pencil for it but it’s coming in my next order, it will be great for ensuring extra long wear and crisp edges, this one I’ll wear the heck out of.

colourpop cosmetics lippie stix lumiere swatch

Lumière. A dusty mauve pink, matte finish. A creamy, very opaque shade for those 90′s lips that seems to be hot shit right now. It’sa colour that would flatter almost any skintone, I’m really liking it actually! It’s dusty enough to not look like pink and cute, but it still doesn’t lean brown, thank the lawd.

colourpop cosmetics lippie stix bff swatch

BFF. Warm peachy nude, glossy finish. A wonderful 60′s peach colour, unmistakeably yellow toned which I really like. SUPER opaque for being so thin and glossy without actually looking too whitened. I won’t wear this one full on like this because it’s just too much for me, but dabbed on in a thin layer this is a great shade to tone down lips with. It would be 10/10 for me if it was matte, the glossy formula isn’t as fantastic as the matte in my opinion. Can’t wait to pair it with a big black eyeliner and peachy cheeks. Yum!

6 favourite vampy red nail polishes

I always find dark red nail polishes, especially creams and jellies, hard to get right. The formulas are often thin and tricky and the end result looks patchy. I have gone through sooo many brands and looked for great vampy wines, here are six that I have stuck with! Some new, some old.

6 favourite vampy red nail polishes

Deborah Lippmann – Just Walk Away Renée

A rich neutral tone, crelly (right inbetween creme/jelly) finish.

Zoya – Claire

A slightly deeper brown toned shade, more muted. Cream finish.

China Glaze – Velvet Bow

A medium toned red leaning a tad on the cool side, a bit lighter in tone. Crelly finish.

China Glaze – Short & Sassy

A cool toned cranberry wine. Glowy shimmer finish.

OPI – Every Month Is Oktoberfest

A warm toned red with a fiery copper flash. Glowy shimmer finish.

Lilypad Lacquer – True Blood

A cool toned wine with plum rainbows. Holographic finish.
