Stoned Rose

Here’s what I’m wearing on my face today! I have been baking a f*ckload of vegan coconut/vanilla and cinnamon buns and we’re about to watch the second episode of Westworld (SO AWESOME!), the perfect Saturday night if you ask me.

And heyyyy, I tried mixing the Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation (we all know how that one worked out on me, read about it here) with my Lumene Nude Perfection Fluid Foundation which is a tad too dark for me at the moment, it really helped soften the formula of the All Nighter and really turn into the type of high coverage base I like wearing.

…. AND YES, Stoned Rose is a beautiful lipstick. Go get it!!

Makeup By Emme Pressed Pigment Eyeshadow swatches + mini review

Sofia (Instagram @herroyalnerdness) and I went ham on a fun Etsy shop called Makeup By Emme at the end of September, today the package came and I really look forward to trying these gorgeous shadows.

Makeup By Emme sell pressed mineral shadows in a bunch of pretty metallic shades, some of them are hand made blends, some plain pigments from TKB Trading. For those who have been in the swing for a long time TKB Trading is one of the old school places to order ingredients for mineral makeup. She lists this info in the shop, so there’s no shady business at all. For the affordable price of $3.99 (not handmade shade) to $4.99 (handmade shade) Canadian this is a EMINENT way of getting your hands on well packaged mineral pigments that won’t make a mess of your makeup table! Otherwise you could always buy the pure TKB shades in loose format for about a dollar less if that suits you better. Worth mentioning!

Go get yours at the Makeup By Emme Etsy shop!

The eyeshadows come packed super well, I’m so happy to see that! A tiny paper bag for each shadow..

And inside the paper bag you have a bubble wrap ziplock bag around the loose magnetic pan. These shadows won’t break in shipping unless someone jumps on them. Thumbs up!

All shadows are creamy to the touch, but as always with mineral shadows they need a primer for that complex sparkle (which classic shadows never can measure up to, go mineral shadows!) to really show. In these pictures I’m swatching all of them on bare skin so that you can see how they look straight from the pan.

It’s SO hard to pick a favourite, all of the classic shimmers are very similar in formula, plus I did pick my favourite shades from the range. Haha! But maybe that Midnight Blue (this one reminds me of some other eyeshadow!! what is it?), Blackstar Blue and Storm makes my heart beat a little extra fast.

The only shadow that is a bit weird is Chameleon Glitter, sure, it flashes gorgeously between rust/pink/silver/aqua but the creamy formula is off and feels gritty and oily at the same time, it’s like petting a greasy shedding lizard or something. It drops glitter everywhere and it’s hard to apply evenly. I’ll try it on top of other shades to see if it might bring it to life! Update: I just got a message that it will be discontinued soon because of the weird formula.

Overall I’m so happy I stumbled upon these shadows, I’ll happily order more in the future!

Smoke

Today I played with the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Smoke, four matte cool toned shades that together create the perfect dark grey smokey eye. As always with KVD eyeshadows they swatch, apply and blend heavenly, but holy shit they kick up so much product when you put your brush in them!! See the picture at the bottom of the post.

I used all shades except for the medium grey, those greys always turn dirty blue on my skintone so I skipped it for that reason. The taupe is the star of the show in my opinion, it’s the peeerrrrfect shade to soften the edges of a black eyelid.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Smoke. Can you believe that it was completely untouched before doing this makeup? No? Well that’s the classic KVD kickup for you. A beautiful makeup look on your face (without any fallout on the face!?) and the same amount of eyeshadow sprinkled over your makeup table. Haha.

Chaos

Today I used all blue shades from the Urban Decay Electric Palette, mainly Chaos which is all over the lids, as I focused more on pinks/corals/purples the last time I used it. I just can’t keep my hands off lime green Thrash though, it just pulls me in every time. You can read my review of the palette here!

This time I didn’t use the wrong foundation, lucky me. Haha! If you compare this to my last look where I by mistake smacked a full coverage foundation on my face you can see the difference it makes, a thinner base is my go-to with really bright/dark makeup as I find that it makes it a bit more “I woke up with this blue eyeshadow”.

How would you wear your skin with a lot of eye makeup, full on doll or sheer and dewy?
