My current lippie must-haves

As you might have read we recently bought an apartment (YAY US!) and therefore a lot of packing and cleaning is going on. I let myself keep one lipstick holder (buy it cheap on eBay) out, the rest of my lippies are ready for moving. A lot to pick from for a normal human being, a very limited range for the lipstick creep! Haha.

I thought this little holder represented my current must-haves very well, as only the best stuff ended up in there. Let’s go through it!

The first three swatch rows are all lipsticks, on the last row you also have three glosses and a pencil. Let me know if you want a closer look at any special ones.

Papaya

Today a bunch of news from Viva la Diva and Babor arrived in the mail, so I thought why not try them out? Here are my first impressions! Pictures of all of them (except for the concealer for some reason??) at the bottom of the post.

Viva la Diva Make It All Better Concealer in Fair. A twist up concealer that actually brightened my undereyes really nicely and locked in place quickly. I’m actually surprised by how much I like it, this one will be exciting to experiment further with.

Viva la Diva Contour Your Beauty Kit. A kit with two contour shades, two matte + one shimmery highlights and a blush. I used the blush Pink Grape and the contour in Chocolate (on both facial contours, socket of the eye and lower lashline) today. Blends easily and looks great on the skin! Especially that blush shade is yummy.

Viva la Diva Duo Highlighter in Pink Silver. A very sparkly highlighter in pale champagne and peach. I swirled them together for an overall glow, then dabbed only the pale shade on the inner corner of the eyes and on the absolute top of the cheekbones/bridge of the nose. Left me a with a bit of glitter fallout though.

Viva la Diva Eyebrow Fine Liner in Mitad. A sharpie for your brows! Fantastic brush and formula, it is not too thin so it will pack on some colour, the formula isn’t too translucent either but it still doesn’t apply like a sharpie line. It dries into place very quickly but a dab with a finger right after applying a line will diffuse it a lot. Plus it doesn’t stain the skin underneath so it’s easy to blend out. The shade Mitad is supposed to be warm though, mine is either marked with the wrong name or the actual ashy shade in the line has to be as grey as an old basement.

Babor Lip Gloss Stick in Papaya (05). A bright coral orange gloss stick, very thin and slippery on the lips which gives some application problems. I needed to pat it in and therefore dull the colour and shine down for it to stop sliding around so badly. The final result is really nice even though it isn’t as saturated and shiny as it is straight from the bullet.

Berlin Calling

First of all, thank you for the support on my last post! I’m really happy that we seem to be on somewhat of the same page. The world of makeup has room for everyone.

So, todays makeup! I have had a bunch of products from vegan company Defa Cosmetics lying around quite a while, they come in fantastic modern colour schemes and stuff but something (most of all the weirdly perfumed powder products, holy shit please don’t) puts me off. Rattly packaging for example. Well, these eyeshadows are beautiful though! Just get rid of the perfume and I’d reach for the more often.

I’m wearing matte blurple Domino on the outer corners of top and bottom lid, cyclamen pink Berlin Calling with a blue sparkle on the inner halves and as a blending colour along the edges. The inner corner and middle of the lid got a dab of translucent pink MAD Minerals Whisper Opal for some extra depth.

International women’s day – why we need it. Yes, I’m talking about my last post.

I went back and forth between whether I should write this post or not but it is far too important to skip, especially on a day like this.

In my last post about the Instagram makeup trend I was cautious about how to put my words, it was me trying a highly discussed makeup style on my own face for the first time and leaving with a conclusion of how didn’t like wearing it. Then a question: what do you think of this heavy makeup trend? The post spiralled away in the comment section and turned into a unexpected virgin Mary marathon of comments saying how tacky, overdone, shallow and bad this makeup style is, even comments aimed towards the people wearing it and how they hide their “real” looks. Discussing trends is one thing, disrespecting people is another.

I am NOT okay with these opinions, they are not what I’m about and neither this blog.

I’m sorry if you somehow misinterpreted this as critique towards anyone, and I hope you reevaluate if you have these opinions. My opinion is already stated in the sidebar of my blog, I quote myself: Makeup doesn’t have rules. The only person who decides what’s right or wrong and if you’re wearing it or not is you, and that’s where my job as a blogger comes in handy. Use my experience as a guide or an inspiration towards finding your own way.

And in case it feels good hearing me put it in words once again: I’ve always aimed to create a relaxed community of sisters, so please act that way. Hold each others backs and nurture the bond, remember the fact that we are all still afraid to get sexually harassed on the late bus home for the exact same looks that we beat each other up for online. Don’t pretend that we are any different from each other, that the sisterhood doesn’t have bigger problems to stand up against. We need each other.

Like Bikini Kill said back in 1992:

You’re a big girl now
You’ve got no reason not to fight
You’ve got to know what they are
‘Fore you can stand up for your rights
Rights, rights?
You DO have rights!

Thank you.
