So, browsin thru the nets i bumped into this beautiful serie of photos of harlem during the early 70′s. Jack Garafalo, the spectacular photographer behind this, spent 6 weeks in harlem, new york in the summer of 1970. I totally fell in love with this because it reminded me so much of type of photography that my dad was into in his younger photo-taking days.
This was around the time that large numbers of residents left harlem for neighborhoods in queens, bronx and brooklyn – seeking for a better living. Those who were left in harlem, were the people who couldn’t afford that change.
But as you can see in the photos, the vibe was alive. Aaaah really loving this.
